Food For Thought: My thoughts during intermission at NYC Ballet
Its all about timing. movement. precision. movement to music.
Standing out in ballet means you are "extra": ultra feminine, or masculine. Beautiful and graceful. Demure and bold.
The movement and timing is key. For the audience is makes your eyes dance with the notion of the movement they are portraying.
An illusion of precision and sychronization. Perfection.
Strength and grace under pressure.
The body stretched and utilized to its limits. Moving the body in impossible ways for normal people show ing that the impossible is possible and that people can obtain greatness if they push themselves beyond the limit and out of the box.
What is grace in motion?
Moving in a light and airy way. Showing style and movemnt that is hard as if was easy and as light as air. Airy.
Energy. Light. Showing what a radiant light looks like in a human form, balanced, light, moving. style. beauty. melody, drama. emphasis. efficiency. maximizing the moment and space. shining the light. illuminating style.
Female clothing is free flowing and airy. emphasizing movement. circular. round. big. making a bold statment.
Men's clothing is tight. showing the pure movement of raw muscle and strength.
Talent. Only .0001% of all ballet dancers are chosen for performing in NYC Lincoln Center. The cream of the crop. Our superman and wonder women of movement.
The lifespan of a ballet dancer. Maximum in their 30s. The light must be bright, light, and young, raw.
From the balcony, you must be able to see their colgate smile. happiness and other feelings expressed or they are not doing a good job. At all angles really you should see visible emotion in motion expressed by dancing showing the impossible as possible by the cream de la creme. Our champagne and caviar A Ivy team.
I asked a man how do they know to be in sync with each other. Everyone moving at the right time, in harmony. He said they are counting in their heads to an 8 count. Their choreography is flawless and they memorize their routines and their spots. They are not keeping track of the music although to me it seemed like they were in perfect beat with the music. Moving wherever the music commanded them.
Well the ten minute intermission ended and so did my train of thought.
